I have been into Applesnails and the Pomacea paludosas for the past several years. Recently i have expanded my snail universe to include land dwelling snails.

Bill over at Jaxsnails has been a great help. I have seen all kinds of little land snails I have never given much thought to. More to the point I carry my camera about with me wherever I go. Today I cam across two Liguus here in Miami at the Matheson Hammock County Park. Although I am not actively collecting now, during a period from 1965-1968 was very involved with Liguus. I was in my teens, and did some collecting in Florida (at Matheson and Brickell hammock, PC 72 and PC 88, Lignumvitae Key, and Totten Key).

My contact in Florida was G. Raymond Lyles, who had a shop (Abacus Hobbies, 218 N. E. Ist Avenue, Miami) that bought and sold coins, stamps, and shells. As a side note, I lived in the middle Keys for almost thirty years, worked for myself, and lots of free time to roam the hammocks. I have never been a live collector, but have a decent collection and a ton of interest in liguus.

The invasive species situation in South Florida is getting really exciting. A naturalist friend found four pythons on a single outing near Key Largo. He got this one, 9' 10'', with his machete. Chris will be pleased.

I began my shell collecting career in the late 40's as a junior partner with my mother. I was more into collecting than study and did not continue shell collecting in later years. My mother however became a very active shell collector. Many long time shell collectors in Florida will remember Virginia Lee's shell exhibits.
