These framptoni from the same population demonstrate the variation in the expression of both the rust-colored upper surface of the first whorl and the number of pink whorls below the tip.

The framptoni at the left has a parietal that is almost entirely covered by the white callus. The pseudojohnsoni at the right has a nearly entirely exposed parietal.

Frampton wrote in his description of solisoccasus, "First nuclear whorl pink, and very faintly so in some specimens;" A closer examination of basically white-tipped shells with "jeweled tips" appearing somewhat pink, including solisoccasus, shows a pale pink first whorl, sometimes extending into the second whorl, the tip with a rust-colored upper surface. Shells like solisoccasus are commonly described as having jeweled white tips. They include beardi, castaneus, clenchiand solisoccasus. Like the shells with jeweled pink tips, they have purple parietals and a color shift toward tan.
