Pseudos are limited to the subspecies (possibly species) solidus. Every variety, published and proposed, of the subspecies solidus is expected to have a pseudo morph, and examples of most have been found. Mixes within the subspecies are also found with the distinctive purple parietal, the primary means of identifying a pseudo. A tiny dark "cap" on the tip is also present in most cases. This feature gave rise to the collectors' use of the term "jeweled tips." On shells with lighter colors, an overall shift toward tan is a third distinguishing feature. This is not seen on white or very dark morphs.
True hybrids also occur with pseudo characteristics but don't persist. A true hybrid is a mix of different species or subspecies.
